Liver Transplant
Liver transplantation is a life-saving surgery for the treatment of suitable patients with end-stage liver disease and some types of liver cancer.1
Both living-donor and deceased-donor liver transplants are possible.2
The outcome of liver transplantation has markedly improved over the last three decades.3 With current immunosuppression regimens, the rate of acute rejection after liver transplantation is low.3 Chronic rejection is also very uncommon.3
Immunosuppressive medication is one of the most important factors in the treatment outcome for liver transplant patients.1
Nonadherence to immunosuppressive therapy after transplantation affects the success of the transplant and the survival of patients, yet 15–40% of patients do not take their immunosuppressive medications regularly.1 This is one of the leading causes of liver transplant failure.1
Whilst various complex factors play a role in non-compliance with post-organ-transplant immunotherapy, cost is one of the possible issues.4 Immunotherapy medications are a major component of total expenditure after organ transplantation,4 which is why high-quality generic post-transplant immunotherapy medications are needed.
Sandoz and Novartis have over 40 years of experience in transplant care and Sandoz is the #1 provider of generic transplant medications in Europe.5 We are proud of our ability to help patients maintain the optimum immunosuppression medication dosing which is so critical to transplant care.5
